Bueller........................Bueller..............................Bueller.....................Bueller.....................Bueller?

This classic scene from Ferris Bueller's Day Off  pretty much sums up my feelings on painting...Borrrrrrrrrrrrrring!   Moreover, I really don't think there is anyway I can make a post about painting white sheet rock with white primer and white paint even remotely interesting....so if you are still reading, grab some caffeine because you might need it to stay awake.  "Frye........................Frye.............................Frye...........................Frye...................................Frye"

For the record, I despise painting.....its time consuming, messy, boring, requires very little skill, and the only exciting thing that every happens during a painting project is when someone knocks over a can of paint onto the floor.  Anyone who says they actually like painting probably should have their head checked.

I wanted desperately to hire this portion of my project out, but I couldn't bring myself to pay some knucklehead several hundred dollars to do what I myself am more than capable of doing.  So despite having the financial means to outsource something I can't stand, I bit the bullet and spent the weekend painting.

I should have channeled my inner Tom Sawyer for this one.

Complaints aside, I will say that this project was without question the most difficult and time consuming painting project I have ever done.  The reason for this is all the beams I had to paint around....a total of 146 beam-drywall interfaces and 43 decking-drywall interfaces that had to be taped off and painted around.  In total, I spent 5+ hours alone just taping everything off!

You're welcome, Shurtech, for the free advertisement.  (I'm sure the endorsement check is in the mail).

With everything taped off, I trimmed out everything with drywall primer, then rolled on the primer, then trimmed everything out in my finish paint, and then rolled everything with 2 coats.  I don't know what else I can tell you...it was boring and not terribly gratifying (its not like I was painting the room a super funky color).

Well, this photo pretty much sums up my weekend.  Nothing says "hey, did I just waste 6 hours of my life" when you can barely distinguish the primer from the finished paint!  In fairness, it was a bit more obvious to the naked eye, but my cell phone's camera didn't seem to be able to illustrate this subtlety too well.

In truth, I struggled with whether or not this phase of my project was even worth documenting, but as we all know, misery loves company.  Why should I hoard all the boredom for myself...the wealth must be shared!  Besides, while painting is indeed an extremely boring task, it IS important....its the first thing everyone sees when they walk into the room.   A crappy paint job will overshadow even the greatest craftsmanship....or highlight someone's poor attention to detail.

I'm just glad its over!
